Dear Mishpochah (family):
This
teaching article will continue our studies of
Proverbs. As we have seen so far, the SUBJECT of the book of Proverbs
is the TORAH. The exhortation of the book of Proverbs is that those
who are WISE will FOLLOW TORAH. In this article, we will examine Proverbs 3.
MY SON = THE COVENANT PEOPLE OF YHVH
KJV Proverbs 3:1 My SON, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep
my commandments:
MY SON = the covenant
people of YHVH
KJV Exodus 4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD,
ISRAEL is MY SON, even my firstborn:
KJV Exodus 4:23 And I say unto thee, Let MY SON go, that he may serve
me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son,
even thy firstborn.
KJV John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to
become the SONS of God, even to them that believe on his name:
The covenant people of YHVH are encouraged to
keep the Torah
and the commandments of YHVH.
FOLLOWING THE TORAH BRINGS A PROMISE OF LONG LIFE
KJV Proverbs 3:2 For length of days, and LONG LIFE, and peace, shall
they add to thee.
KJV Psalm 91:2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my
fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
KJV Psalm 91:9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge,
even the most High, thy habitation;
KJV Psalm 91:10 There shall NO EVIL befall thee, NEITHER shall ANY
PLAGUE come nigh thy dwelling.

God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

overtake thee, IF thou shalt HEARKEN unto the VOICE of the LORD thy
God.

against thee to be SMITTEN before thy face: they shall come out
against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.

WHAT IS THE FEAR OF YHVH?
KJV Job 28:20 Whence then cometh WISDOM? and where is the place of
UNDERSTANDING?
KJV Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the FEAR of the LORD, that
is WISDOM; and to depart from evil is UNDERSTANDING.
KJV Psalm 111:10 The FEAR of the LORD is the beginning of WISDOM: a
GOOD UNDERSTANDING have all they that DO his COMMANDMENTS: his praise
endureth for ever.
Job
asked what is wisdom and understanding? The
BEGINNING of wisdom and understanding is the fear of YHVH. How to we
express our fear (reverence, respect, awe) of YHVH? We keep His Torah
or commandments!
FEAR YHVH IS WISDOM = KEEPING HIS
COMMANDMENTS
If the fear of YHVH is the beginning of wisdom
and
understanding then what is the fear of YHVH?
KJV Deuteronomy 5:29 O that there were such an heart in them, that
they would FEAR ME, and KEEP all my COMMANDMENTS always, that it might
be well with them, and with their children for ever!
KJV Deuteronomy 8:6 Therefore thou shalt KEEP the COMMANDMENTS of the
LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to FEAR HIM.

FEAR God, and KEEP his COMMANDMENTS: for this is the whole duty of

FOLLOWING TORAH = MARROW TO YOUR BONES
KJV Proverbs 3:8 It shall be health to thy navel, and MARROW to THY
BONES.
In order to live, you NEED
MARROW in your BONES. So following

These verses tell us that KEEPING
and DOING the TORAH is done
by a WISE and UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE.
WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING IS FOLLOWING TORAH

be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round
about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and
quietness unto

Therefore, a person who is WISE and

follow the TORAH and will PROSPER.
WHAT IS WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING?
KJV Job 28:20 Whence then cometh WISDOM? and where is the place of

is WISDOM; and to depart from evil is UNDERSTANDING.

THE PATH OF FOLLOWING TORAH IS PEACE (SHALOM)

THE TREE OF LIFE IS FOR THOSE WHO FOLLOW TORAH

they may have right to the TREE of LIFE, and may enter in through the

KJV Proverbs 3:19 The LORD by WISDOM hath founded the earth; by
UNDERSTANDING hath he ESTABLISHED the HEAVENS.

clouds drop down the dew.

WE DON'T STUMBLE WHEN WE FOLLOW TORAH
KJV Proverbs 3:23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy
FOOT shall NOT STUMBLE.
KJV Proverbs 3:24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea,
thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
FORGOTTEN YHVH = NOT FOLLOWING TORAH = STUMBLING
KJV Jeremiah 18:15 Because my people hath FORGOTTEN ME, they have
burned incense to vanity, and they have CAUSED THEM to STUMBLE in
their WAYS from the ANCIENT PATHS [FOLLOWING TORAH], to walk in
paths, in a way not cast up;
STRAIGHT WAY = FOLLOWING TORAH = NOT STUMBLING
KJV Jeremiah 31:9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications
will I lead them: I will cause them to WALK by the RIVERS of WATERS in

Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

KJV Proverbs 3:27 WITHHOLD NOT GOOD from them to whom it is due, when
it is in the POWER of thine HAND to DO IT.
KJV Proverbs 3:28 Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and
to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

dwelleth securely by thee.

DON'T STRIVE WITH MAN WITHOUT CAUSE

gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob;

Jerusalem.
THE MEEK (THOSE THAT FOLLOW TORAH)
WILL INHERIT THE EARTH
KJV Psalm 37:11 But the MEEK <06035> shall INHERIT the EARTH; and
shall
delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
KJV Zephaniah 2:3 Seek ye the LORD, all ye MEEK <06035> of the earth,
which
have wrought his judgment; SEEK RIGHTEOUSNESS, seek meekness: it may
be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD'S anger.

KJV Isaiah 51:1 HEARKEN to ME, ye that FOLLOW after RIGHTEOUSNESS, ye
that seek the LORD: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the
hole of the pit whence ye are digged.
KJV Isaiah 51:7 Hearken unto me, ye that KNOW RIGHTEOUSNESS, the
PEOPLE in whose HEART is MY TORAH; fear ye not the reproach of men,
neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

and thy TORAH is the TRUTH.
KJV Matthew 6:33 But SEEK ye first the kingdom of God, and HIS

SUMMARY OF PROVERBS 3
In continuing our study of
Proverbs, we see that the SONS of
YHVH (Exodus 4:22-23, John 1:12) are commanded to KEEP TORAH (Proverbs 3:1).
Following Torah results in:
#1) Long life (Proverbs 3:2)
#2) Peace (Proverbs 3:2)
#3) Victory over our enemies
We are to:
Write the Torah upon our heart
(Proverbs 3:3)
Which will result in:
#1) Finding grace and favor with Elohim and men (Proverbs 3:4)
#2) Knowing YHVH intimately when we follow Torah (Proverbs 3:6)
Following Torah is:
#1) Fearing YHVH (Proverbs 3:7)
#2) Our life (Proverbs 3:8)
#2) Walking in wisdom and understanding (Proverbs 3:13)
#3) Walking in peace (Proverbs 3:17)
#4) A Tree of Life (Proverbs 3:18)
We are to:
#1) Keep our eyes on Torah (Proverbs 3:21)
#2) So that we not stumble in serving YHVH (Proverbs 3:23)
When we follow Torah:
#1) The firstfruits of our increase is given to YHVH (Proverbs 3:9)
#2) We get chastised by YHVH for not follow Torah (Proverbs 3:11-12)
#2) We don't strive with others (Proverbs 3:30)
#3) We give to a needy brother (Proverbs 3:27-29)
#4) We will inherit the earth (live with Messiah during the Messianic
